What do you do when your dining room goes largely unused? This was the question our client had been pondering when they turned to us. Their requests were fairly simple. They wanted a room that would be used more often and would be an inviting ‘first look’ when guests walked into their home. Their family had no need for a formal dining room. They wanted a place to work from home, but not a full home office. This led us to a warm, enveloping sitting room. It felt like the most logical transition. We painted the walls and trim a moody blue, swapped out the dining room furniture for four comfortable chairs and a leather ottoman style coffee table. It became an easy hang-out space and/or a secluded area to work or read. We switched out the curtains and artwork and have plans to add a beautiful bookcase to complete the space. Sometimes it is more than okay to use a room in a new way.
