A Cozy January, January-ish Thoughts + 2025’s Word of the Year

January. Unpopular opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I like January. Maybe not everything about it … but most of it. I like the slowness of it. After the rush of the holidays, January is rest. January is recovery. There is a calmness to it, a sleepiness to it. Over the past few years I’ve done a better job of accepting it. Sinking into it. Embracing it. Wrapping up in it.

January is one of the only truly cold months in our part of NC and … I love it. I don’t want a long winter. I think that would get depressing. But one month of cold. Yes. I like bundling up to walk the dogs. I like changing into my pjs at 6:30 pm 😂. I like curling up under heavy blankets and reading. I wouldn’t want these things all of the time. But, give them to me for all of January.

Read more about winter, why I like it … and creating a cozy winter home in last January’s article titled Creating a Cozy + Warm Wintery Home.

January is also a time to reflect and start anew. And, I’ve always loved that. This year, my word-of-the-year is consistency. Man, oh, man, I almost wish it weren’t. But, my word-of-the-year chooses me … I do not choose it 😂 And, consistency is something I need to work on. In every area, more consistency would bring positive growth and positive change. I know it. Now it’s time to show it. So, consistency it is. I will work on being consistent – in nutrition and fitness, in work, in quiet time and bible study … the list goes on.

Since I’m embracing the cold and the slow in January … a round-up of cozy things seemed appropriate. After all, January is sweater weather and sweater weather is better weather. Ha ha. Okay, maybe I’m taking it too far (lol), but I dooo love a good sweater. And, I do love all things cozy. So … here we go …

some cozy January-ish things …

I know that January can feel like a million long years at times. It’s definitely the slowest month of the year. But, there is good in that. Allow it to welcome you in. A winter. A time to pare back. A time to sit in the now while anticipating the spring that’s coming. All of nature needs a season of restoration … and so do we. It has so much good in it for you.
