I love you. I whisper it into the wind. I hold my hands out wide. Free. I release it. Knowing it could shatter me into a million pieces. Knowing it will. Love. What a wild ride …

Valentine’s Day. The truth is … Valentine’s Day is sweet and cute and I’m happy to welcome it into our home and celebrate it … but it doesn’t always feel all that LOVEy to me. I’m not sure why. Maybe, I’m limping toward the finish line of January. Maybe I’m just feeling a little off. A little melancholy. My head isn’t in the game. I’m feeling a little more serious and a little less sweet and cute. I can’t quite place it. Whatever the reason, I can’t seem to find the words to write about love and home this year even though those things are wildly, wildly important to me.

I’m sure my mood will shift and I’ll get in the spirit of Valentine’s soon. Until then, I’ll hang my pretty pink and red wreath on the front door, I’ll pull out the Valentine’s mug that I painted at one of those paint-your-own-pottery places with my kiddos a few years ago (it makes me smile), I’ll put our heart-shaped marble coasters out and hang the banner my daughter picked out at Target. I’ll dress the part. I’ll embrace what is. I’ll look around and feel the love that lives within these walls. I will see it. I will feel it. And, my mood will shift. I choose love.
